CEB on CD-ROM Honored by Independent Judges in
Folio's Fourth Annual Infobase Industry Awards

BERKELEY, Ca, May 27, 1997 Continuing Education of the Bar, California (CEB) has earned an award for Best Legal Industry Infobase Reference for its CEB on CD-ROM software. It was the second award in a year for the innovative legal research product.

Folio Inc., the world's leading provider of infobase publishing software, conferred the award earlier this month in the Folio Fourth Annual Infobase Industry Awards. The judges, editors and reporters for major law and technology publications, considered dozens products.

"CEB on CD-ROM allows customers to achieve greater productivity using the work of CEB contributors, attorneys and editors to our major legal books", said CEB Co-Director Pamela J. Jester. "It is gratifying to receive this kind of acknowledgment from people in the industry who understand the effort behind such a migration".

"This is proof positive that CEB s investment in its CD-ROM products is helping California attorneys do their jobs with greater authority and effectiveness", said CEB Co-Director Craig Conly. "We intend to continue to embrace those innovations which we can adapt to deliver CEB s high-quality practice tools to a wider audience that is increasingly technologically savvy".

Awards Recognize Outstanding Achievement

According to Jay Fiore, director of marketing for Folio, the awards recognize outstanding achievement and demonstrate technology leadership.

"CEB on CD-ROM is an intuitive and powerful infobase that integrates terrific legal-specific features", Fiore said. "One great feature is the ability to search the forms on the disc to find specific attorney-drafted language that is needed. The time and billing function also is a nice legal touch, since it helps the attorney convert research time into billable hours".

CEB on CD-ROM is four compact discs that contain the most essential practice tools in four major areas Business Law, Estate Planning, Civil Litigation, and Real Property. Each disc includes 12 to 18 of CEB s best-selling publications in each area, as well as a year or more of CEB s Reporter publications. Besides the ability to scan forms only and the time and billing function, other Folio innovations include the ability to create a Shadow File that records the research done for each client. Users have recently cited the CD-ROMs for containing details on how to litigate an issue in a way no other legal publisher has done. Attorneys and firms may request a free demonstration disc by calling 1-800-CEB-3444.

In a statement from judges, CEB CD-ROM was cited as an intuitive and powerful set of infobases that contain a number of features designed specifically for the legal professional such as a time and billing function that helps attorneys convert research time into billable hours.

Carol Gamble, CEB s Research & Development director, said "Nothing could be more satisfying than to receive this award from Folio. Integrating these innovations while we migrated more than 50 publications to four discs was a formidable task, but is really paying off for the customer. We can be proud of our accomplishments and look forward to developing even better new products."

The award was the second for the product in the last 12 months. In June 1996, CEB s CD-ROM products earned an Outstanding Achievement award in for the Best Use of Technology category from the Association for Continuing Legal Education. When presenting that award, the organization cited several innovations that make CEB s outstanding paper-based publications fast and easy to use for attorneys.
